Picture

Colonel Robert Hammond's Regiment of the Armie of Parliament was formed in the late 1980's as the Lord Generall's Lifeguard by Sealed Knot Lord-General Douglas Turner. Our aim as a regiment within The Sealed Knot, is to portray Captain Charles O'Hara's Company (the third Captaine's Companie), of Colonel Robert Hammond's Regiment of Foote - an English Civil War company of the Parliamentarian New Model Army Regiment of the same name formed in 1645.

The original Hammond's saw their first battlefield action at the Battle of Naseby in June 1645, and went on to become veterans of many battles throughout the English Civil Wars. When we march out, we are re-enacting the 4th Regiment of Foote in the New Model Armie of 1645 - the forerunner of the British Army Redcoat Regiments we know and are so proud of today.

Colonel Robert Hammond's today offer precise drill, a great fighting spirit on the battlefield and a lively social side to our unit once the fighting is done. Hammond's truly are a friendly bunch! We get together throughout the year at battles (called musters); we also have lots of regimental events including Living History events, Anniversary Marches, Training Weekends, our own small musters and culminating with our spectacular regimental annual banquet.

Hammonds are also proud of their long friendship with the Memmingen Pikeniere from Memmingen, Bavaria, Germany. Our friendship is reinforced with visits to and from Germany, and we are honoured to be known as the Fahnlein Reinach - the 5th Company of the Memmingen Pikeniere. We have Hammond's in the Pikeniere, and we have members of the Pikeniere in Hammond's
unit website

Hammond's redcoats have white facings (sleeve turn-backs and linings in white linen). Their coats are secured by white tapes rather than buttons. They wear a range of different grey and drab colour breeches. Standard New Model Army equipment (1645) the fore-runner of our famous British Redcoats.

In Hammond's Regiment each commanding officer chooses upon his appointment a standard for the period of his tenure. Our CO chose the 3rd Captain Charles O'Hara's Company for his colours.
